Privacy Policy
What data STRIDE stores, and where
STRIDE stores the following in its own private storage on each device you use it on:
- Your teacher profile (name, and school and email if you choose to enter them)
- Class and roster information you enter or import (student names, grades, and — if you add them — student ID numbers, sex, age and skill level). Before adding sensitive information such as student ID numbers, check your school district's policy on student data.
- Attendance records
- Performance ratings you assign
- Fitness test results (the Presidential Fitness Test and any custom tests you create)
- Skills assessment scores and any comments you write while assessing
- App settings (your accent color, rating categories, school calendar, reminders, and similar preferences)
None of this is sent to STRIDE's developer or to any STRIDE server — there isn't one. The app works fully offline.
Syncing between your own devices (optional)
If you turn on sharing, each device saves a copy of your STRIDE data into a folder you choose, such as a folder in your iCloud Drive, and reads the other devices' copies from it. That copy travels through your own iCloud account under Apple's privacy terms. It never passes through STRIDE's developer. Sharing is off until you set it up, and removing the folder or turning it off stops it.
Backups
- Backups you export. Settings › Data & Backup can save a backup file of all your data. Where it goes — Files, Google Drive, email, or anywhere else — is your choice, and the file is yours to keep or delete.
- Your device's own backups. Like most apps, STRIDE's data may be included in your device's own backups, such as iCloud Backup on an iPhone or iPad, or Time Machine on a Mac. Those are made and stored under your own account and settings.
The only data that ever leaves your device
- Weather (optional). If you set a weather location, STRIDE asks a third-party weather service, Open-Meteo, for the local forecast. It sends either the town name you type into the location search, or an approximate position: "Use my location" rounds your position to an area a few kilometers across before saving it, and your exact position is never saved or sent. Nothing else from the app is included — no names, no student data. As with any internet request, Open-Meteo's servers see your device's IP address. To stop, clear your saved location in Settings › Location & Weather.
That is the only network request STRIDE makes. Its fonts and PDF reader are built into the app. STRIDE does not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services of any kind.
Send feedback. The Send feedback link at the bottom of Settings opens your own email app with a message to us that contains your STRIDE version and device type. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and nothing from your classes is included.
Permissions STRIDE asks for
Each is optional and asked for only when you turn on the feature that needs it:
- Notifications — for the class reminders you choose in Settings. Reminders are scheduled on your device by STRIDE itself; there is no notification server.
- Location — only when you tap "Use my location" for weather, rounded as described above.
- Face ID or Touch ID — only if you turn on the app lock (iPhone and iPad).
Student data specifically
Students do not use STRIDE directly. There is no student-facing login, account, or interface — all data about students is entered by the teacher for their own recordkeeping, much like a paper gradebook or spreadsheet. STRIDE does not knowingly collect any information directly from children, because the app has no way for a student to interact with it.
Your control over the data
- You can edit or delete any student, class, or record at any time from within the app.
- Archiving a class at the end of a term hides it but keeps its records on your device. Restore it from Roster › Archived to change or delete it.
- Settings › Data & Backup › Reset All Data erases everything STRIDE holds on that device.
- Deleting the app from an iPhone or iPad removes its stored data. A Mac keeps app data in your user Library after the app is removed, so use Reset All Data first if you want it gone. Copies you made yourself — exported backups or a sync folder — are yours to delete.
- Because nothing is stored on STRIDE's side, there is no "delete my data from your servers" request to make — there are no servers.
Security
STRIDE's data is protected by your device's own security, such as its passcode. On an iPhone or iPad you can also turn on an app lock in Settings › Privacy, which asks for Face ID or Touch ID before STRIDE opens; on a Mac, STRIDE is protected by your Mac login. Your device handles that check itself — STRIDE never receives your face or fingerprint data.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
STRIDE is a professional tool used by an educator; it is not directed at children, and children do not use it directly or create any account. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through STRIDE. Questions about how student data should be handled under your school or district's policies are governed by your school's own procedures — STRIDE is a local tool the teacher controls, not a district system.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change. A meaningful change to how data is handled — for example, if STRIDE ever added an online service of its own — will be clearly noted here before the update that introduces it.
